Getting Back to Writing and…Preparing for a Kitchen Remodel

As you know, the death of my sister-in-law, Lori, hit me very hard. I feel as though I am emerging from a very dark period where there was always daytime but never sunlight.

As part of my re-emergence into the real world, I am working on two very different—but creative—things.

First, I have picked up the keyboard once more and am starting to write again. I confess, it feels good to be back at it again. I have resumed work on a book I had started last year. It is a piece of women’s fiction that takes place in my home state of Maryland. It’s a romance, it’s a mystery, it’s historically-based.
My agent is very excited about the project and is in a flurry of phone calls to editors. As a faithful newsletter subscriber, you will be the first to know if and when it sells.

Second, I’m getting ready to embark on a kitchen remodeling project. Although I am by no means a gourmet chef, I do enjoy cooking. My kitchen really doesn’t have sufficient counter space for prepping big meals. I’ve been asking my husband for a decade for a kitchen expansion and to my delight he has agreed to embark on it this year!

It is great fun flipping through kitchen magazines and tearing out pictures, as well as going through the Internet and downloading pictures. I should probably put together a Pinterest page, shouldn’t I? I want to do an American colonial look. Here are some photos of gorgeous kitchens that I just love. Alas, I’m sure these would all cost a bajillion dollars to do, but they are great sources of inspiration.

Have you ever done a kitchen remodel? If so, do you have any advice on me so I can avoid making any big mistakes? If not, is it something you have ever thought about doing? What would be your dream kitchen style?
